Background

Where the standard came from.

I spent five years building and maintaining backend systems inside large companies: four years at Amadeus in Nice, on the software the travel industry books through, and one at LexisNexis Risk Solutions in Dublin, with earlier roles in other countries before them. Those are systems that have to keep working on a Monday morning, under real load, with real people depending on them. That is where I learned to write software that survives contact with the world rather than only with a demo.

I now build for small and medium businesses through my own studio. Everything is written from scratch with current tools rather than dressed up from a theme: fast on a phone, built to last, and where your domain, content and customer data are in your name from the first day.

I do the whole job — the design, the code, the payments, the hosting, the domain and the French paperwork underneath it. There is no account manager between you and the person writing the code, because they are the same person. That is the argument for working with me, and it is also the reason the handover and terms are written down rather than assumed: your assets stay in your name, and the exit is clearly defined.

Track record

What I have actually shipped.

Two own ventures and two employers. No client is named here until the work is live and they have agreed in writing to be named.

My own online shop, and the reason I can talk about e-commerce from the operator's side rather than the vendor's. I wrote the theme in Liquid, set up products, shipping and card payments with 3D Secure, and registered the business behind it. It is live and trading.

A native reader for Scripture and the historic confessions: twelve substantive works, every cross-reference linked, and a full-text search index that runs on the device and needs no network at all. In build.

Native where native belongs, plain HTML where it will do, and as few dependencies as the job survives with. This site is the example: no framework, no build step, and every page still opens from a disk.

How I work

Four things you can hold me to.

01

A conversation first

Free, and with no obligation afterwards. What the business needs, and whether software is even the right answer.

02

A fixed quote

One price, one scope, one date, agreed in writing before any code is written — including an explicit list of what is out of scope.

03

Working software early

A real link you can open and test while changes are still cheap, rather than a slideshow of what it will look like.

04

Clear ownership

Domain, content and customer data in accounts in your name from the first day. The platform is licensed while you subscribe, and the exit is written into the terms.

One project at a time, finished before the next begins. I would rather ship a small thing that works than a large thing that nearly does.

Get in touch

Tell me what you are trying to build.

A website, an online shop, an iOS app — or an honest read on whether the thing you have in mind is worth building at all. I reply within two working days.
